Is it for You?

Currently, we are not taking additional volunteers to work in the garden, but as the growing season heats up, we may need more so feel free to contact us to get on our waitlist at hilcomgarden@gmail.com.

We also can use help in publicity, fundraising and outreach. If you are interested, please send us a note at hilcomgarden@gmail.com

Is it for You?

Our goal is to aid those in need by distributing a wide variety of organic vegetables.  We grow nine months of the year producing greens, radishes and beets in cooler weather and tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans, okra (and more!) in the summer.

We practice sustainable agricultural methods including regulated irrigation, composting, mulching, and growing cover crops to enhance the garden soil.

We welcome all members of the community to become involved in our garden. If gardening is not your thing we have other opportunities. Just ask. Are you a fundraiser? Last summer, a Strawberry Shortcake fundraiser provided much appreciated funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hilcomgarden@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We have a wide variety of delicious produce growing: lettuce, kale, radishes, carrots and collards are planted in the spring and fall.  Tomatoes, peppers, beans, summer and winter squash and cucumbers are planted in the spring and summer.

While our main goal is to donate our produce to PORCH, that isn't to say we won't have a few leftovers for our lovely volunteers! There is nothing better than sinking your teeth into a tomato sandwich with a tomato you just harvested!

Absolutely no experience is required to work at the garden. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come play in the dirt with us!

No minimum hours are required to volunteer at our garden. You can stay for as little or as long as you would like!

We recommend coming prepared with gardening gloves, water, a hat and sunscreen. It is hard to find shade at the garden which is great for our plants or getting a tan ;) but not the best for us hard at work! Lets stay hydrated!

We will supply any tools that are needed to work in the garden.

We also do not have onsite restrooms but there are nice public restrooms on King St. near Margaret Lane at the Hillsborough Visitors Center.
